The Wai court on Friday extended the police custody of Santosh Pol, who allegedly killed six women, by a week. The police have charged Pol with fresh sections, following his revelations on the murders.
Pol was taken to the court, after he showed the site near his house where he had buried the body of the sixth victim. Pol did not get a lawyer, as advocates from the area have decided against it.
Pol was arrested on August 11 from Mumbai in connection with the kidnapping of Mangala Jedhe, an anganwadi worker. During the police custody, Pol revealed that he had committed six murders since 2003. Police have found located all six bodies so far.
Additional sections were applied against Pol when he was produced before the court. Jyoti Mandhare, who is believed to be co-conspirator, is also in police custody. Jyoti used work as Pol’s assistant-cum-nurse. Pol used her mobile phone to have a conversation with one of the victims, Mangala Jedhe.
Trupti Jagdale, API, Wai, told HT Pol is currently arrested in connection with Jedhe’s murder. Charges will be updated once the identity of the five victims is established.
