The constable, Vinod Kashinath Pardhi, 30, was facing a complaint filed by a woman officer who alleged that he had passed lewd comments and threatened her last year.

Seven months after a suspended constable was found dead at Pachubunder in Vasai, the police have registered a murder case owing to new post-mortem evidence which mentioned that he died of head injury.

The constable, Vinod Kashinath Pardhi, 30, was facing a complaint filed by a woman police officer who alleged that he had passed lewd comments and threatened her last year. The Vasai Gaon police registered a case against Pardhi under section 509 (insult to the modesty of a woman) 352 (punishment for assault or criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation), 504 (criminal intimidation), 504 (insult), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC on December 6, 2015. He was suspended by Palghar SP Sharda Raut on January 25, 2016, and since then, he had been suffering from depression, said his wife.

Battling depression, the father of two allegedly committed suicide in February this year and the police registered a case of accident death. The family, however, alleged foul play and blamed the inquiry for his death.

A missing complaint was registered by his wife on February 5 and his body was found after two days. Now, a case under section 302 (murder) of the IPC has been registered against unidentified person/s, said PI Sampatrao Patil of Vasai police station.
