Shyamwar Rai, a key witness and approver in the Sheena Bora murder case, on Tuesday was asked by the special CBI court to identify his former bosses. Rai hesitated and looked around at first, then pointed at Indrani, Peter Mukerjea and also Sanjeev Khanna.

Rai was also asked to identify the articles used by them while committing the crime. The items included bags bought for disposing of the bodies, letter written by Indrani’s secretary Kajal Sharma on Indrani’s instructions and which was delivered to Sheena’s office and shoes worn by Indrani at the time of murder.

On Tuesday, the special CBI court continued to record the deposition of Rai. Rai said there was a threat to his life, the court asked the jail authorities to give him adequate security cover.

Last week, Rai told the court how Indrani hatched the conspiracy which was executed by the three. On Tuesday, Rai reiterated that Peter had no role in hatching the conspiracy of Sheena Bora’s murder and attempt to murder of Mikhail Bora.

Rai’s examination by the prosecution concluded on Tuesday and defence lawyer for Indrani, Sudeep Pasbola began cross-examining him.

Rai stuck to his confessional statement and gave the court all details from the time he joined Indrani and Peter as a driver and rising to be a close confidante of Indrani. However, it could not be completed and will continue on Friday.

While the case was adjourned and Rai was being escorted out, he said there was a threat to his life at Taloja jail. The prosecution later moved a plea before the special judge, who directed the jail authorities to increase his security.

Bora was killed in 2012 but the case came to light in 2015 after Rai’s arrest. Rai is the crucial link in the case which led to the arrest of Indrani and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna for the murder.
