BJP MLA Ramchandra Avsare reportedly abused and slapped a police constable in Bhandara, a video showed. Ironically, the entire incident took place in the presence of a senior police official.

The incident comes after Suresh Lad, an Nationalist Congress Party MLA from Karjat in Raigad district, allegedly assaulted a deputy collector over land acquisition for a gas pipeline project.

In the video, Avsare was seen slapping constable Raju Sathwane, asking him why he beat up his driver. The police constable can be heard saying that the driver had abused him but the enraged MLA slapped the constable as soon as he came close to him. Sathwane is deployed at Tumsar police station of Bhandara district.

The incident took place after the concluding ceremony of Tiranga Rally organised at Tumsar and the constable was accused of shoving and beating the MLA’s driver.

Avsare was not available for comment despite repeated attempts. BJP spokesperson Madhav Bhandari said that they need to find out what actually had happended on that day.

“While watching the video, it seems, that the constable had done something wrong which led the MLA to take such a step. But the party will get details of the incident and a decision will be taken by state president,” Bhandari told HT.
