The Maharashtra government plans to start the first phase of land allotments in Shendra industrial park, the state’s first smart city on the ambitious Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), from September-end.
Shendra, near Aurangabad, will be the first node of the entire corridor passing through six states to reach the stage of land allotments. The DMIC is touted to be the world’s largest infrastructure project that promises to connect the country’s two most important metros by a high-speed railway line and create 24 industrial smart cities along the alignment.
A senior official with the state’s industries department said, “Initially, we will test the response by starting allotments on 150 acres. At least three companies have shown active interest so far. All are proposed mega projects by foreign conglomerates.”
He said the work on developing the requisite infrastructure such as roads and a network of power, water and sewage utilities is currently underway at Shendra and a portion of it, which the state plans to open up to companies, has been completed. “We are seeking an appointment from the chief minister to inaugurate it, after which we will begin the procedure of allotment. Infrastructure development work for the Shendra industrial park will be completed by 2018,” the official said.
Meanwhile, the state will finalise the rate of land for the Shendra industrial corridor in a board meeting of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) in the first week of September, he said.
The land allotments will be done online, according to the MIDC’s regular procedure, at the rates finalised by the corporation.
The Shendra industrial park, spread over 845.26 hectares, is planned on the east of Aurangabad city as a mixed land use area with industrial, residential and commercial development. Spread over three villages -- Karmad, Kumbephal and Ladgaon -- the industrial park will be adjacent to the existing Shendra industrial area.
The industrial park will get water from the Jayakwadi Dam Reservoir on Godavari River, about 40km from the site, to meet a daily estimated demand of 27-30 million litres. Besides, a solid waste management system with a waste management facility proposed over a 3.62-hectare plot in the east of the industrial development has also been designed.
However, while the development of the Shendra park is progressing, work on its sister township, Bidkin, located at the other end of Aurangabad, has been sluggish, with the state yet to complete land acquisition. The entire Shendra-Bidkin industrial belt is proposed to be developed by 2025.
