The Thane police — who recently raided a dozen fake call centres — have a made a list of the main accomplices to the mastermind, who coordinated with him.
The police have not disclosed names, but have confirmed that all the accused are from Mumbai and Thane, while the mastermind is from Gujarat.
“We have made the list, and there more than a dozen accomplices that played vital roles in the fake call centre business. Apart from making a list, we are keeping an eye on the family members of the accused and are in the process of taping their phones,” said a police inspector from the Thane crime branch.
The police are patrolling the area around Mira Road in civil clothes, where most of the accused live, and plan to call their family members in for questioning to the police station if necessary to know about their whereabouts.
The police have also extended their investigation to other parts of India, and have shared information with police stations of various other cities.
“We have been going to various call centres in Thane and have been investigating. After our first raid on the fake call centre, many other call centres were shut down and we have taken note of them. We will investigate as to why they have been shut down, how they used to work, and who owned the call centres,” said another police officer.
