Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Chhagan Bhujbal, his nephew Sameer Bhujbal and son Pankaj Bhujbal are facing several allegations of corruption.

Chhagan Bhujbal was arrested on March 14 last year in a money-laundering case related to a controversial deal with a private developer. He is currently lodged in the Arthur road jail.

The cases in which the Bhujbals are embroiled:

Maharashtra Sadan scam

The allegations: It is alleged that the redevelopment of Maharashtra Sadan, state guesthouse, was not advertised. The contractor allegedly gave a sub-contract to companies owned by Bhujbal’s kin and friend. A private developer was reportedly allowed to carry out the makeover of the Sadan and an RTO at Andheri in lieu for FSI for a slum rehabilitation project in Andheri. The FIR said the move benefited the developer, KS Chamankar, but the state suffered losses.

The accused: NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal, his son Pankaj, nephew, Sameer, government employees and private parties namely Arun Devdhar, Manik Shah, Devdutt Marathe, Deepak Despande, Bipin Sankhe, Anilkumar Gaikwad, Krishna Chamankar, Pravina Chamankar, Pranita Chamankar, Prasanna Chamankar, Tanvir Shaikh, Iram Shaikh, Sanjay Divakar Joshi and Geeta Sanjay Joshi.

The Kalina land deal

The allegations: According to ACB sources, the case involves a prime plot at Kalina belonging to the Mumbai University. The university decided to construct a library through a government entity. In 2009, the PWD, then under Bhujbal, allegedly issued tenders to construct the library on one part of the plot, and allegedly leased out the remaining land to a well-known developer for 99 years at Re 1 for a square metre. This caused huge losses to the state exchequer.

The accused: Bhujbal ,five other PWD officials — Gajanan Sawant, who was then a sub-divisional engineer; Harish Patil, an executive engineer at the time; Anilkumar Gaikwad, then superintending engineer; Sanjay Solanki, then undersecretary and MS Shah, then secretary (constructions). CA Ravindra Sawant was later named accused in the case and has been named in the charge sheet.

Hex world case

The allegations: The Navi Mumbai police booked Bhujbal cousins in the case involving an amount of Rs44 crore, after a group of 25-30 people, waiting for the housing project to take off for four years, approached the court over the delay in construction.

The accused: Sameer and Pankaj Bhujbal, along with three others.
