Three held for stealing 51 bikes in Thane

In the past two weeks, Thane crime branch arrested three history sheeters from in an around Thane for stealing 51 bikes.

The three accused, who were produced in court and taken into custody, have been identified as Sandesh Dattaram Maladkar,31, a resident of Raigad, Babu Parmeshwar Shettiyar,28, a resident of Kalwa and Vinod Ganesh Bankari, 26, a resident of Shahpur.

New channels deviced for bike robbery surfaced after the arrest of these three. Maladkar said he is a bike agent and seels bikes that are seized by the bank at minimum rates.

S Chiwadshetty, a Thane crime branch unit-1 official, said, “The accused had stolen 51 bikes, which they used to keep in different areas. It was a tip off that helped us nab the accused who were on the run from past many months for many crimes. It was found during investigation, that the arrested accused had done robbery in Navi Mumbai, Thane, Mumbai and other nearby areas.”

The links of the accused, who stole 51 bikes worth Rs 20 lakh, are being tracked by the cops to find if they used to operate alone or not.

DCP Thane Crime – Parag Manere said, “We have alerted all our officers about such thefts and at the same time we are tracking the owners’ identity so that once the process is over the bikes can be handed back to them. The accused were booked under relevant sections of IPC.”

“All the three accused are history sheeters and we suspect that they might have robbed more bikes,” added Manere.
