Three people, who were stuck in a lift in their building in Thane for more than two hours, were rescued safely on Monday morning.

The three people were identified as Pramod Kadam,42, Pranali Kadam,38, and Shankar Pandey,49 . The incident took place at a building in Khopat, Thane. The building is 18 storey and has been facing issues with maintenance for the past few weeks.

The lift got stuck around 10am. Hearing their screams for help, other residents rushed to the lift and informed the regional disaster management cell (RDMC).

Santosh Kadam, RDMC, Thane, said, “The pulley got jammed. The lift was not maintained properly. It should have been checked periodically to avoid such a problem”.

Kadam said, “The lift operators were called in. The building management members have been informed about the poor maintenance of the lift. They have assured us they will take care of it.”
