The Mumbai police filed a 711-page charge sheet against actor-producer Rahul Raj Singh in connection with the April 1 suicide of his girlfriend, television actor Pratyusha Banerjee. Singh, who had been provided interim relief, has been charged with abetment of suicide, assault and criminal intimidation. Senior officers said they have strong evidence

“We have added Pratyusha’s autopsy reports to prove she was a victim of assault. The charge sheet includes statements of 45 witnesses, medical reports and forensic reports,” said an officer.

The forensic report comprises a histopathology [examination of a biopsy] report, which confirmed Banerjee had been pregnant.

The police have included the statements of Banerjee’s parents, her uncle Dipankar and his wife Barnali. Barnali told police that she saw injury marks on her thigh when the 24-year-old visited them at their house in Ambernath.

Banerjee told Barnali she sustained the injury in a fight with Rahul, according to the statement.

Dipankar said he called Banerjee’s mother Soma after he came to know of the ill treatment. He told Soma they were sending Banerjee back home. However, she decided to stay back.

Banerjee was found hanging on April 1 at her Goregaon apartment, which she shared with Singh, an actor-producer. Leena Dias, who is Banerjee’s friend, said Banerjee called her around 3am on April 1 and said she wanted to get out of the relationship. Singh’s ex-girlfriend Saloni Sharma’s statement was also recorded after Banerjee’s co-stars alleged that she assaulted the actor and that she used to harass her. The case was investigated by inspector Deepak Phatangare of the Bangur Nagar police station, who submitted the charge sheet on Wednesday before the Borivali metropolitan court. Singh has been asked to appear before the court on July 30.
