Two brothers, both in their 20s, were booked by the police in Ulhasnagar, a suburb near Mumbai for allegedly molesting and threatening a 22-year-old woman for refusing their advances.

Akash Katare and Bunty Katare are on the run after a case was filed against them on Monday.

An officer from Hill Line police station said the incident occurred on October 17, 2016, when the woman, a housewife, had come to stay with her parents for a few days after a tiff with her husband. The couple lives in Kalyan.

“Akash and the woman were in a relationship before she got married. She was accosted by the brothers when she visited the market with her son. Akash asked her to give him Rs50,000 and also demanded sexual favours. She refused and the next day, he threatened to throw acid on her and kill her son. He even threatened to defame her by disclosing their past to her husband,” the officer said.

Senior inspector Mohan Waghmare from Hill Line police station said the woman refused to give into their demands
and approached the court last year.

“Following court’s directive, the case was transferred to us on Monday. A case was filed against the accused. Both will be arrested soon.”
