The victims, Swapna Vivek Markande, 62, and her son, Suyog Markande, 32, died while Suyog’s father, Vivek Markande, 65, suffered a head injury and is admitted in Kasa government hospital. The car, which was driven by Suyog, was overspeeding and feel 25m into the Surya river after colliding with the divider on the bridge.
“At 6.30am on Sunday, the car was going towards Kopar Khairane from Surat, when Suyog lost control of the vehicle. The car crashed into a divider and fell into the Surya river flowing under the bridge,” said API Jayprakash Gute from Kasa police station.
“Since was little traffic on that particular stretch, Suyog was speeding. There is a three lane bridge which narrows down to a two lane, but the driver misjudged the diversion, which led to the accident,” he added.
