Around 125 families stay near the Vasai salt pan areas that are low-lying. Rain water entered the homes on Wednesday night .The VVMC Fire Brigade was called in and on Thursday morning, 25 persons were rescued, said Bharat Gupta,Chief,Fire Committee,VVMC.

Many of the people had climbed on the poles of the streetlamps to escape the water fury, said Gupta. “The power had snapped because of the heavy rains,” he said.

On Thursday, a VVMC boat with firemen on board rescued the 25 stranded people and shifted them to a dry area, said Gupta. :”We also provided them with food packets and drinking water, and milk to the remaining people who were stuck in their homes since Wednesday night,” he said. “Now the water has receded and people are safe.”

“We have asked people to shift to higher places as there could be more rains, said Gupta. As usual, no government official or political leader has bothered to even pay a courtesy visit to the people and only on Thursday morning, the VVMC came into the act,” said Shyam Thakur, one of the people who was stranded .”We were left to fend for ourselves.”
