Watchman held for entering Sion school, molesting students

The accused hid in the premises and started harassing students.

The Sion police arrested a 26-year-old watchman who allegedly trespassed into a Sion-based school and molested several female students on July 27.According to police officials, seven female students have registered a complaint, and even more are expected to come forward.

The accused has been identified as Dharmendra Prahlad Rao, a resident of Antop Hill. Police said he came to the school in the afternoon during the lunch break. “The accused entered the school on the pretext of collecting his passing certificate. He hid in the premises, following which, he started harassing students,” said an officer from the Sion police station requesting anonymity.

“The incident came to light when the children ran to the teacher complaining about the harassment. The accused, who was in the school toilet at the time, was locked inside by the teacher,” said the officer.The teachers called the police, who came to the school and took the accused into custody.

“The accused is sound of mind. We are yet to find out the reason for his actions,” said a senior IPS officer.

The accused has been booked under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354 (A) physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian penal code along with sections 8 and 12 under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The complainant, a school teacher, refused to comment on the matter.
