The Maratha silent protests that have spurred other stirs and polarised castes in Maharashtra, are centered around two demands – reservation in jobs and education for the community and a review of the Atrocity Act. Both demands threaten to set off a Dalit vs Maratha and a Maratha vs OBC tussle. HT looks at where the state’s four main political parties, who are now caught in the crossfire of these communities, stand on these two demands. With Marathas making up 32% of the state’s population, Dalits around 10% and OBCs around 41%, taking sides is a tightrope walk for any party.
