A 27-year-old woman from Roha in Raigad district was found murdered at her rented flat at Khandeshwar on Monday. The police have found sharp cuts on her throat and hands.

According to the police, Anjali Pawar, lived alone in a flat on the second floor of Sai Leela Apartment at Akruli village. She was married but her husband did not live with her.

“Some of her neighbours informed us about a smell emanating from her house. The door was locked from outside. We broke open the door and found the body in the bathroom,” said Santosh Jadhav, assistant police inspector from Khandeshwar police station.

“Prima facie, it appears that the victim was murdered around two days ago. The body was covered with some clothes. Her throat was slit and her hands injured with a sharp object,” he said.

The police have not recovered any weapon from the house. “There were neither CCTV cameras nor security guards in the building. We are yet to get a lead in the case,” he added.

The police have sent a team to Roha to search for her husband. They also have not been able to trace the woman’s parents or the family members of her husband.

“We have registered an FIR under sections 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the unidentified accused. Our investigations are on,” he said.
