Woman molested by driver and friend, pushed out of running auto-rickshaw in Mumbai suburb

Mumbai city news: The 23-year-old woman lives in Chithalsar Manpada in Thane and works as a dietician with a private firm in Mumbai.

A woman was molested by two men in an auto-rickshaw in Thane on Wednesday. She was pushed off the running vehicle later, and suffered injuries on her face and body.

The 23-year-old woman lives in Chithalsar Manpada in Thane and works as a dietician with a private firm in Mumbai.

The Naupada police have lodged a case against the two accused, the driver and his friend.

Four teams have been formed to nab the accused. This is the third such incident in the past few years.

According to the complaint, the woman reached Teen haath naka around 9.30pm. She took a share auto-rickshaw from here to go to her place. “The woman was sitting beside the driver. When the rickshaw was on Pokhran road, a man sitting behind grabbed her around the shoulder. The woman got scared and screamed for help. The driver took the rickshaw through the service road instead of Manpada Road. She tried to jumped off the rickshaw initially, but was held forcibly. He pushed her off later,” said an officer from Thane commissionerate.

The woman was pushed off the running rickshaw near TCS office on Pokhran road.

Officer added,” We have made four teams to nab the accused and have also taken the details from the victim. We have gone through all CCTV footage, which could capture the accused, and are trying to identify the accused. After she was thrown off the vehicle, the locals rushed to her aid and she was taken to the hospital. Her family was alerted.”

An officer said, “She also told us that the men had threatened to kill her when she was screaming for help.”

The police have booked the two under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
