The police arrested a 30-year-old man on Saturday who allegedly stole resumes for job applications and then robbing valuables from the workplace.

The police said the accused Santosh Khadtar (30), a Panvel resident, used this modus operandi for cheating several people. On July 12, Avinash Gokhale (57), an architect, lodged a complaint against Rajesh Dongre (32) whom he had employed as an office boy on the same day. “He had come for an interview on July 10 following which I hired him as an office boy and asked him to join after two days,” Gokhale told the police.

Gokhale then asked him to go to his residence and help his wife as his house was under renovation. “He went to the house and made away with a mobile phone and gold chain.”

“With the help of the resume, we traced Dongre to a Dharavi house, only to discover that the he had never applied for the job,” said Assistant Police Inspector Milind Desai. The police traced the accused to Panvel with the help of the phone that the accused had stolen. “The accused has admitted to have committed similar offences in Bandra, Khar, Malad and Goregaon,” he said.
