The Social Service Branch (SSB) of the Mumbai police along with the Dahisar police conducted a raid at a restaurant and bar in Dahisar where an alleged prostitution racket was being operated. The police arrested 11 people including the operator and manager of “Samudra” bar and restaurant.
Acting on a tip-off about a prostitution racket being operated from the bar, the SS branch sent a policeman posing as a customer.
“ The officer found that the girls who were being portrayed as singers were being provided for prostitution”, said an officer., requesting anonymity.
Following this, the SS branch team raided the premises and rescued nine girls. The police arrested 12 persons including the manager Yeshwant Krishna Shetty, 33, and the operator Krishnababu Shetty ,34.
Senior inspector AS Prijade of Dahisar police station said the accused had been arrested under relevant sections of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act.
