The Indian Coast Guards on Wednesday rescued 14 fishermen, who were rendered helpless in sea for four days after their boat engine had malfunctioned.
The boat, Vidwan, had left Vasai Pachubunder in Thane district on August 21 and drifted about 80 km from the coast due to engine failure and ingress of water in the engine room.
After the Coast Guards received information about the missing boat at 2 pm, the agency diverted ICGS Sangram to look for it. After a rigorous search in choppy conditions, they found it and rescued the crewmembers, who were exhausted.
The 14 fishermen were given immediate primary medication.
The boat is being towed to Vasai creek, where it will be handed over to Thane District collector.
