A newlywed couple from Sion was robbed of Rs 15 lakh in cash and jewellery that they received during their wedding. The unidentified accused broke into their home between Monday and Wednesday when the family was out attending a function.

The Sion police said the incident took place at the Highway Apartment residence of industrialist Dilip Takbathe, 62.

“Takbathe, was out along with his family members in Powai, where an event organised by an NGO they were associated with was being held. His wife, son and daughter-in-law accompanied him. They stayed at the event venue for three days. When they returned home on Wednesday, they found that the main door lock was broken,” said investigating officer, Vinod Gadankush from the Sion police station.

“They found cash along with gold and silver jewellery was missing from the house. They approached the Sion police on Wednesday, where we registered a case of housebreaking,” added Gadankush. There are no closed-circuit television cameras in the building.

The police are questioning the domestic help, watchman and those who knew that the family was away for three days.

When Hindustan Times approached the family members of Takbathe, they refused to talk claiming it was a personal matter.
