A 15-year-old boy on a bicycle was killed after a speeding SUV knocked him down in Palghar early on Monday. The Valiv police investigating the case are on the lookout for the unidentified motorist.
The police said the incident took place around 1.30am on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway. The boy, Firoz Ansari, was riding a bicycle when he met with the accident.
The police learnt that Ansari was crossing over to the other side of the highway on his bicycle when an Innova coming in Ansari’s direction at high speed knocked him down, an eyewitness told the police. As Ansari fell off his bike and sustained severe injuries, the motorist fled from the spot. The eyewitness took Ansari to a hospital. The boy was, however, declared dead on arrival.
Following his death, the police were informed and an FIR was registered. The Valiv police have registered a case of causing death due to negligence and rash driving against the unidentified motorist.
“The man who took the boy to the hospital was unable to note down the vehicle’s registration number. We are investigating to trace the vehicle and its owner,” said an officer from Valiv police station.
