16,603 pirated DVDs seized from Govandi

The police, along with Alliance Against Copyright Theft, on Friday night raided a unit in Govandi where pirated DVDs of recent hindi movies were allegedly being made.

The police, along with Alliance Against Copyright Theft, on Friday night raided a unit in Govandi where pirated DVDs of recent hindi movies were allegedly being made.

They seized 16,603 pirated DVDs, more than one lakh inlay cards, 95 DVD writers, a DVD player and television worth Rs 13 lakh.

The police arrested Radheshyam Yadav, 35, and Akbar Ali, 30, and booked them under relevant sections of the Copyright Act.

Police inspector Vinay Gadgill from the Social Service Branch said: “ We presented Yadav and Ali before the holiday court and have secured their custody until December 27.”

In the last three weeks, the Alliance Against Copyright Theft has pirated goods worth around Rs 28 lakh and officials of the social service department have arrested 18 men.

On December 19, the police had conducted a raid at MIDC in Andheri (East), where more than 4,000 pirated DVDs were seized and two men arrested.

In a similar raid at a warehouse in Ulhasnagar, the police seized 4,800 pirated DVDs and arrested five people.
