The Mumbai traffic police registered 161 cases of drink driving across the city on Christmas day.
As part of the ongoing drive, on Saturday, the police had registered 109 cases of drink driving.
Those found driving under the influence of alcohol were produced before the special metropolitan magistrates and were sent to simple imprisonment, police said.
The Mumbai traffic police armed with breath analysers can be spotted on city streets in large numbers especially during festivals and occasions like the New Year’s Eve that witnesses a rise in the number of drink driving cases.
Till December 22 this year, the traffic police have made out 14,510 cases against drink drivers with the driving licence of 5,705 being suspended.
The traffic police have marked specific spots in the city that normally see more instances of drink driving and had assigned additional manpower at those spots.
