A teenager who had gone to Film City at Goregaon (East), along with his friends, on Sunday for a picnic died after drowning in a lake located inside the premises.

The body of Raja Harijan, 17, was fished out over an hour after the incident took place around 2.15pm. The police said Harijan and six of his friends, all residents of Santosh Nagar area of Dindoshi, reached the Aarey Film City around 11.30am.

After loitering around, they reached the lake and decided to go for a swim around 1pm.

When they ventured out of the water after a while, Harijan’s friends realised he was missing. They began searching for him in the lake.

“When they could not trace him they approached the police and a team rushed to the spot. Meanwhile, the fire brigade was informed about the incident,” said Laxman Tonpe, senior inspector of Aarey Sub police station.

Fire personnel began searching for the body and it was only after over an hour that Harijan’s body was fished out of the lake and rushed to Bhagwati Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

“We do not suspect any foul play. A case of accidental death has been registered in the case,” added Tonpe.
