A 21-year-old boy was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping an 18-month-old girl in Antop Hill on Sunday.
The accused, a mason by profession, resides the same area and is the victim’s neighbour, the Antop Hill police said.
The toddler was playing outside her house when the accused, Aroz Fazulu Shaikh, took her to his house and allegedly raped her.
DN Deokar, senior inspector of police, Antop Hill police station, said, “When the victim’s mother could not locate her, she started searching for her. She then heard her daughter’s cries from the adjacent house.”
When she opened the door, she saw Shaikh putting on his clothes. The victim’s mother questioned him about why her daughter was crying, but he allegedly ran away. She got suspicious and reported the matter to the police,” Deokar added.
Shaikh has been arrested on the charges of rape. Both the accused and victim have been sent for medical tests to the Nagpada police hospital.
