Three days after the civic body issued notices to all corporators in the city, asking them to return the laptops issued to them in 2009 - as reported in HT's January 16, 2012 edition - 19 of them deposited their laptops on Monday.

Corporators who turned in their laptops to the civic Information and Technology department on Monday include senior corporators Sameer Desai, Vinod Shekhar, Meena Desai, Alice Therattil and Sujata Waghmare. Deputy municipal commissioner Prakash Patil confirmed the development.

All corporators are supposed to return official possesions once the code of conduct is enforced. "If they don't, it can also be viewed as a violation of code of conduct," a civic official said.

"There is no point keeping the laptop with me as it is BMC's property, so I surrendered it," said Sameer Desai, a Congress corporator from Goregaon.

Rahul Shewale, a Shiv Sena leader in the BMC and chairman of the civic standing committee said that all Sena corporators had been instructed to return their laptops.
