A 19-year-old boy was found murdered near the Mafatlal compound gate in Kalwa (East) on Tuesday.
The victim, Rahul Kumar Jaiswal, originally from Uttar Pradesh, had appeared for his Class 12 exams.
He had come to the city a few days ago to spend his vacations with his grandparents. The victim was staying with them in Mulund.
“We got a call in the morning about a body lying near Mafatlal compound. His head was smashed with a stone,” said Vittal Desai, senior police inspector of Kalwa police station.
“We were able to identify him with the help of a cancelled railway ticket from Thane to Allahabad,” added Desai.
No arrests have been made yet.
“His grandparents had filed a missing complaint at Mulund police station on Monday night. We have now registered a case of murder against unknown persons,” said Desai.
The victim was expected to meet his eldest brother Shailendra who stays at Vittawa in Kalwa.
“Rahul left his grandparents’ home on Monday evening. Shailendra called him up around 8.30 pm. Rahul answered the call but the phone line got disconnected. His brother kept trying but the phone was switched off,” said Desai.
Police suspect a case of robbery and murder.
Ten days ago, Republican Party of India leader Ramatai Pujari was also killed in Kalwa. Residents of Kalwa (East) have been demanding a police chowkie due to increasing incidents of crime in the area.
