A 24-year-old hawker was arrested in Bhandup for raping a 19-year-old girl. The police said the accused, who knew the victim, waited till he was sure her parents had left for work and landed up at her doorstep.
Shauza Attaullah Ansari has been booked for rape and been remanded to police custody by a local court. According to the police, the victim was having a bath when Ansari entered the house. Her younger brother lay asleep in another room.
“Ansari pulled the victim out of the bathroom and raped her repeatedly. By the time the girl’s father reached home, Ansari had escaped,” said an officer from the Bhandup police station, who did not wished to be named.
Soon after, the victim narrated the incident to her father. The girl’s parents approached the Bhandup police station and registered a rape case against Ansari. By evening, the police managed to nab Ansari, who was still in the neighbourhood.
He was booked under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and produced in a local court that remanded him to police custody till May 20.
