The third accused Siraj Rehman Khan alias Sirju, 24, and the fourth accused Mohammed Kasim Hafiz Sheikh alias Bangali, 21, were on Sunday produced before a holiday court at Killa court and were remanded to police custody till August 30, in the gangrape case in which a 22-year photojournalist was raped at the Shakti Mill compound, Mahalaxmi on August 22.

The fifth accused in the case, 27-year-old Mohammed Salim Ansari was sentenced to transit remand of two days in New Delhi. He was brought to the city late in the evening and would be produced before the court on Monday.

The two arrested accused, Sirju and Bangali, were produced in the court at around noon on Sunday, amidst tight security by the crime branch.

As per procedure, the magistrate had asked the accused, if they had any complaints against the police, which they answered in the negative. The accused did not have any lawyer to represent them in court.

Demanding police custody, officials of the crime branch said that they want to seize the clothes which they were wearing during the crime and also take a detailed statement from each of the accused to unearth details of the entire case.

The accused have been booked for rape along with other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The case has been registered at the NM Joshi Marg police station.

Earlier, police officials had arrested 19-year-old Chand Abdul Sattar Shaikh and 21-year-old Vijay Jadhav alias Janu, who have also been sent to police custody till August 30.

The Mumbai crime branch would be taking the blood samples of all the accused to match with DNA samples and other evidence to prepare a watertight case. Apart from the DNA samples, the clothes of the survivor and the accused would also be used as evidence, the police said.
