Even two days after obtaining CCTV footage from VN Desai Hospital in Santacruz, the Vakola police till Sunday had made no concrete headway in the baby Ayushman kidnapping case. “We have not arrested anybody as of now,” said Satyavan Choudhary, deputy commissioner of police (zone VIII).

The hospital gave the police CCTV footage that shows a woman wearing a burqa, but the veil was lifted.

“Later, a woman is seen picking up the boy. But her face was covered. We suspect that the kidnapper is the same woman spotted before. We also believe that a man is involved in the kidnapping,” said Choudhary.

The police are questioning residents of nearby localities to find out whether they had seen any woman with an unknown child. “We suspect that a woman who was being coerced to deliver a (boy) child could be instrumental in the kidnapping,” said an officer from Vakola police station.

The police are also exploring involvement of beggar gangs.

Ayushman, the two-month-old son of 19-year-old Pooja Mishra, was kidnapped from the hospital on Friday.
