Two people were killed and eight injured in an accident on the Mumbai-Goa Highway early Tuesday morning. The victims are all of the same family.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight when the victims, residents of Ghatokopar, were heading to Dapoli for a visit to a temple. There were 10 people in the vehicle.
The police have blamed Baban Parwalkar, the driver of the vehicle, for the accident. He, too, is injured.
According to police sub-inspector Jadhav of New Panvel police station, "The Sigwans left home late Monday night in the Sumo vehicle. According to Panvel police, Parwalkar lost control of his vehicle as it reached Sangurli Phata near Panvel. The vehicle then smashed into a trailer that was parked on the roadside."
He added, "The impact was such that two members of the Sigwan family Nirmala, 65 and Sunil, 40, were killed on the spot. The remaining 8 injured were rushed to MGM hospital in Kalamboli."
Apart from the driver, the accused, the injured include include Sunil, the complainant, Ashwini, Santosh, Anant, Sagar Ghevde, Dhondu Katre and Navneet.
