A major fire out broke at Gharda Chemical Factory in Dombivli MIDC, Phase-1 on Thursday afternoon. Two employees were charred to death in the blaze while three others sustained severe injuries.

Dilip Gund, fire officer of the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation, said, “We received a call at around 1.50pm and within five minutes our team reached here; it took an hour to control the fire. 10 fire tenders from Dombivli, Kalyan, Ulhasnagar, Bhiwandi and Ambernath were pressed into service to douse the blaze. Two employees died on the spot and three others were critically injured.”

SA Ghadge, PRO, Gharda Chemical Factory, said, “ I got a call informing me that there was a major fire at Plant-4. I immediately rushed to the spot. This blaze was caused due to short circuit. The exact reason, however, will be known only after the factory inspector completes probe and submits his report.”

He added that 800 workers are currently working in the company in three shifts, and around 30 employees were in plant-4 when the incident happened. Injured were admitted at Hambarde Hospital, Dombivli. “The company will provide insurance and compensation as per company rule,” said Ghadge.
