2 fugitives from UP fire at cops in Deonar, held

There was high drama at Deonar on Saturday as two fugitive men opened fire at policemen from the city's crime branch and the UP task force who had gone there to arrest the duo, accused of murdering a UP police constable.

There was high drama at Deonar on Saturday as two fugitive men opened fire at policemen from the city's crime branch and the UP task force who had gone there to arrest the duo, accused of murdering a UP police constable.

Chandrakumar Singh alias Chandu, 36, a lawyer and his brother Rishikumar, 33, an estate agent, fired two rounds at the police before they were overpowered. The UP-based brothers, who had escaped from police custody, have two other cases of murder against them.

"The two accused fired a rou-nd each at the police," said Himanshu Roy, joint commissioner of police, crime. The Mumbai police have registered a case of attempt to murder against the duo and they will be produced before a court in the city.
