2 helps held for robbery at actor’s house

mumbai Updated: Sep 18, 2010 01:24 IST

The Bandra police have apprehended two men, suspected to have been involved in the theft of cash and jewellery worth more than Rs 9 lakh at actor Raveena Tandon’s Bandra home, from Jharkhand.

A police team will bring the men, who worked as the actor’s domestic help, to the city soon, police said.

The suspects have been identified as Sokhi Yadav (35) and Ashok Yadav (18), both natives of Jharkhand.

“We suspect more people could be involved and are making inquiries,” Additional commissioner of police (west region) Amitabh Gupta said.

A police officer requesting anonymity because he is not authorised to speak to the media said the duo had been employed with the Thadanis at Blue Heaven apartment on Linking Road, for five years.

“It appears that one of the members was not happy with the way the stolen valuables were divided and hence informed the Thandanis about the theft,” the officer said. Ashok and Sokhi had made a set of duplicate keys to the cupboards and stole the valuables when the Thadanis had gone out.

A few days later, the duo left the job claiming they had to return to their hometown for work. The family did not suspect anything because the lockers were not broken.

The Thadanis learnt about the theft only after receiving an anonymous call. They checked the cupboards and discovered that valuables and cash had been stolen. Tandon’s father-in-law, Kundan Thadani, reported the matter to the Bandra police. A police team was sent to Jharkhand from where the duo was picked up.
