In a case of elopement, a 20-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly kidnapping a minor girl for a fortnight on Tuesday.

The accused, Sagar Pawar, allegedly took the 15-year-old girl, a class 10 student of an English medium school, to a room in Kolhapur on October 25.

An officer from Mulund police station, talking on condition of anonymity because he is not authorised to talk to the media said, “The accused and the victim knew each other for the last one year. The 20-year-old would go to the Indira Nagar area of Mulund, where the victim resided, to play cards. Over a period of time the two became good friends.”

Senior police inspector, Prakash Landge from the Mulund police station said, “Pawar had taken with the victim to Kolhapur a few months ago as well. The family members of the victim did not register a complaint fearing it would tarnish their reputation.”

However, when the victim went missing in the last week of October again, the family members registered a complaint against the 20-year-old. With the help of the duo’s mobile numbers, the Mulund police managed to track them to Kolhapur on Monday.

The victim was returned to her family members and the 20-year-old was booked on charges of kidnapping, as the victim is a minor.

“Pawar has been remanded to police custody till November 12.” added Landge.
