Mona Chaudhary, 19, who normally goes to her college in Parel with a friend, was late for her exams and travelled alone on Friday morning. However, she missed her exam, not because she reached late, but because a youngster slashed her face with a razor blade four times outside the college.
Prashant Hule, 20, who attacked her, was seeking revenge for his friend, Sunny, with whom she had fought with a day earlier. Chaudhary had just stepped out of the taxi outside Dr Shirodkar High School when Hule attacked her, said Bharat Gaikwad, Chaudhary’s uncle.
“The incident occurred around 11am when Mona reached her college. She is a good student and is doing a baking course there,” Gaikwad added.
The Bhoiwada police said both Hule and Sunny were waiting outsider Chaudhary’s college and when she alighted from the taxi, Sunny pointed her out for his friend. “Hule slashed her face with a razor blade that he had stuck between his fingers,” said Vikram Patil, senior inspector, Bhoiwada police station.
Locals who witnessed the incident caught hold of Hule and rushed Chaudhary to KEM hospital. The locals handed over Hule to the police, but Sunny managed to escape. “On Thursday, Sunny pushed Chaudhary near her college, after which they had an argument. Hule said Sunny pushed here accidentally,” said Patil. The police are now checking whether Hule, a Dharavi resident, has any previous criminal record.
Chaudhary’s 17-year-old brother Siddharth, who was at the hospital, said: “She had not told us about Thursday’s incident. She may not have considered it important.” Her mother is unwell and could not be at the hospital. Chaudhary was discharged after a minor surgery. Hule was booked under section 326 of the IPC for causing grievous hurt. The police are hunting for Sunny.
