A 22-year-old accused in an attempt to murder case escaped from the custody of the Shivaji Nagar police station on Wednesday morning but was caught in the evening. The accused, Shahabuddin Khan jumped from the first floor room of the police station through the window and slipped away.
“Khan, along with his co-accused, Shambhoo attacked one Wasim Shaikh with swords and choppers at Baiganwadi,” said senior inspector D.S. Jodgudri of the Shivaji Nagar police station.
“Khan was locked in a room on the first floor while assistant police inspector Vijay Bhosale, was inquiring Shambhoo, his co-accused. The room where Khan had been lodged, was newly constructed and had sliding windows from where he jumped into the premises of the police station and ran away,” said an officer.
Khan had been lodged at the Ghatkopar police station lockup. Dilip Sawant deputy commissioner of police, Zone VI told Hindustan Times, “Khan’s father handed him over to the police on Tuesday. He was to be produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court at Kurla on Wednesday.”
Sawant added that while the investigating officer was busy taking down the statement of the co-accused, Khan fled. “Khan is a resident of Baiganwadi, and we would arrest him very soon,” he added.
