A 25-year-old was stabbed to death by his younger brother at their residence in Somnath Yadav chawl near Jawahar talkies in Mulund (West) on Saturday night.

According to the Mulund police, the deceased Udayraj Hiralal Yadav, who was unemployed, frequently demanded money from his family and harassed them if they refused.

The younger brother Vinaykumar Hiralal Yadav, 23, allegedly killed him after a fight broke out between them on Saturday night, the police said.

Vinaykumar was the youngest amongst three brothers, who lived with their parents.

“The accused worked as a data entry operator. Udayraj was previously sent to Bangalore and Jalgaon to pursue a degree. However, he had failed to do so. The victim frequently used to beat up his brothers and father, whenever they refused to give him money,” said a police officer from Mulund police station.

On Saturday night, Vinaykumar and Udayraj were alone in their house when a heated argument broke out between them. Udayraj allegedly slapped Vinaykumar, after which the latter brought a kitchen knife and attacked him.

“The deceased was repeatedly stabbed in his stomach, chest and left hand. He had 14 stab injuries,” added the officer.

The incident came to light when the eldest brother reached their house and found Udayraj lying in a pool of blood.

He informed the police, who reached the spot and took Vinaykumar in their custody.

The body was sent to Rajawadi hospital for post mortem. The Mulund police have registered a case under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 302 (murder).
