In yet another tree-falling incident, a 23-year-old woman was injured on Wednesday after a tree branch fell on the taxi she was travelling in.

Although the taxi driver escaped unhurt, the taxi was damaged in the incident, which took place right next to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) headquarters at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus around 10 am.

The victim Sanchita Wahi, sustained minor injuries on her shoulder and hand as the branch fell on the rear portion of the taxi where she was sitting.

“The girl sustained minor injuries and was taken to GT Hospital in Fort. She was later discharged,” said a BMC official. This is the third incident of branch collapses in the during the last one month.

Wednesday’s episode is the third tree-falling incident to have taken place in the past one month. On July 17, a woman and her six-month-old child died after a tree fell on them outside Inox theatre in Nariman Point. Two weeks later, five people, including two children, were injured after a tree collapsed on a chawl in Antop Hill.

In a survey conducted by the BMC earlier this month, it was found that he city has 226 dangerous trees. The civic body has promised to take immediate steps to strengthen the trees and to ensure they do not get uprooted.
