Three unknown persons thrashed a 23-year-old man, late Friday, around 11:30pm in Kandivli (W). While the victim claimed the attackers were policemen, who allegedly demanded money and beat him up when he refused to pay them, the Borivli government railway police (GRP) officials said the man was luring prostitutes when the incident took place.

The officials said Shailendra Jaiswal, a Malad resident, was striking a deal with a prostitute when two persons came and asked him to leave and thrashed him when he resisted. However, Jaiswal said: “I was waiting for my brother. The man claimed they were policemen, took me to a room and demanded Rs. 5000.”

Shivajirao Bagal, senior inspector, Borivli (GRP) said: “Jaiswal claimed he was beaten up by three people. He did not say they were policemen or demanded money. We have registered a case of assault against unknown accused.”
