The police on Friday arrested seven people on the charge of murdering Sonu Jumman Khan, 24, and seriously injuring his younger brother, Kallu, 21. They are also looking for an eighth accused.

“The main accused, Ajay Survade, a driver, was having an affair with a co-accused, who we suspect was also having an affair with one Aman, which led to a heated argument between Aman and Ajay on Thursday night.” said senior inspector AV Nadgauda, Bhandup police station.

“After the argument, Ajay went looking for Aman with Kavita and six of his friends, in his employer’s Scorpio. They knew Sonu was Aman’s friend and could tell them about his whereabouts,” said Sanjay Shintre, deputy commissioner of police (zone 7).

“Around 1.30am on Friday, the accused reached Sonapur area in Bhandup ,shoved Sonu and Kallu, into the car, and took them to an isolated spot,” said Nadgauda. “When the brothers claimed to be unaware about Aman’s location, the accused beat them up with iron rods and fled the spot,” he added.

A passerby who witnessed the incident called the police. The duo was rushed to the hospital, where Sonu succumbed to his injuries. Kallu is out of danger, the police said.

By tracking down the Scorpio, the police found the accused. “All the accused are aged between 19 to 25 years. We suspect they were under the influence of alcohol,” said. Nadgauda. A case of murder and kidnapping has been registered against the accused.
