A 26-year-old resident of Dharavi was attacked by an unidentified thief with a knife and stole her jewellery worth Rs 1.25 lakh on Thursday.
Vijaylaxmi Nadar, who was alone at home at the time of the incident, suffered injuries on her left hand and was rushed to hospital.
At 9.30am a robber barged into Nadar’s house and threatened her with a knife. The robber asked her to remove the jewellery she was wearing – a gold chain weighing 48gm and four bangles weighing 32gm.
Nadar tried to stop the robber, but the thief instead hit her on her left hand, leaving her injured.
Nadar even tried to catch hold of the thief but the thief fled.
Nadar was admitted to Sion hospital and after getting discharged she registered a complaint with the Dharavi police station.
“A case has been registered under Section 394 of the India penal code. We are looking out for the thief. He should be in our custody by Saturday,” said inspector Deepak Shinde.
Small thefts are common in Dharavi, where the crime rate is high and many alcoholics and drug addicts reside in the area.
