A 26-year-old biker lost his life after being hit by a four-wheeler, which was being towed away by another truck, at Wadala-Chembur link road on Monday evening. A truck was towing the four-wheeler and the chain of the tug snapped, following which it hit the two-wheeler.
The car was moving at a high speed, and before Manoj Bhanushali's could manoeuvre his motorcycle out of the car's way, it rammed into his bike. Bhanushali's bike flung in the air and he was thrown a few metres away due to the impact of the collision.
A Ghatkopar resident, Bhanushali was headed home from his shop at Wadi Bunder when the mishap occurred.
He sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to nearby Sion hospital where he was declared dead on arrival, the police said.
VB Bhosale, senior inspector of Wadala TT police station, said the police had arrested the driver of the towing vehicle, Mukesh Gupta, 21.
He added, "Gupta was towing the Tata Indigo car when the chains of the tug snapped and the car hit the biker. He has been arrested on the charge of causing death due to negligence."
The towing vehicle was moving at a high speed, consequently the car too was moving in high speed. The chain of the tug had collapsed as such the driver could do nothing to avert the mishap, said an officer from Wadala TT police station.
Mukhlif Shaikh, a local who witnessed the mishap told HT, "The deceased was newly wed and is survived by his wife, who is three months pregnant."
Angry residents protested against police inaction, following which they registered a case against the driver.
