A Kurla-based chartered account allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his home on Wednesday morning. The police suspect depression to be the reason behind his death.

Jhugar Mohammed Hussain Khandwawala (27) is a resident of Gol building in Kurla (West). A suicide note written in Gujarati was recovered in which he is said to have apologised to everyone for his action.

“The motive is not clear from the suicide note,” said senior inspector Vijay Bagwe of Kurla police station.

The police said the incident came to light on Wednesday morning when Jhugar’s foster father Mohammed Khandwawala went to see him when he did not turn up for breakfast.

Jhugar and his family stay in different flats in the same building. Though Jhugar stayed alone, he used to eat at his parents’ place, the police said.

The police said that when Jhugar did not open the door in spite of repeated knocks, his father and neighbours broke it open to find him hanging from the fan.

He was rushed to Rajawadi hospital, but was declared dead before admission.

Investigation revealed that Jhugar had cut his wrists with a knife before hanging himself with a lungi.

The police said that Jhugar had got married about 3.5 years ago. He, however, soon got divorced as he and his wife did not get along.

“Because of his disturbed personal life, Jhugar had become an introvert and would hardly talk to anybody,” said Umar Ali, a resident of the area.

The police said that Jhugar was adopted by his foster family from one of their relatives when he was a baby.
