Less than 36 hours after a 27-year-old Spanish national was raped and robbed in her flat on Perry Cross Road, Bandra (West), the police arrested a serial offender for the crime.
A resident of Reay Road, Mohammad Ansari alias Badshah, 30, has 28 cases of theft against him. The police said the victim, who plans to return to her family in Germany by the end of the week, was shown An-sari’s photo and identified him. “We have not recovered the valuables,” said an official, add-ing that the identification parade will take place once the accused is sent to judicial custody.
The police said Ansari, who was arrested on October 27 for breaking into actor Dino Morea’s Bandra home, had tried to rape a foreigner in 2008 after he broke into her Khar flat and was arrested.
Yet, on Monday, this serial offender, who is known to target vulnerable homes in Bandra and Khar, was roaming in the area and robbing homes.
Majid Memon, criminal lawyer and Bandra resident, said it was “outrageous” that the serial offender was walking freely. “His conduct shows that criminals have no fear of the police or the law.”
