The police on Tuesday arrested three men for the murder of senior citizen Arun Tikku, 67, in his apartment in Lokhandwala on Saturday.
The killers wanted possession of Tikku’s 1,500 sq ft flat, which is three flats combined into one, Himanshu Roy, joint commissioner of police (crime), said.
The plot was masterminded by Karan Sood alias Vijay Palande, an associate of gangster Santosh Shetty. The crime was executed by Palande’s associates, Dhananjaya Shinde and Manoj Gajkosh.
The flat is in the name of Anuj Tikku, the deceased’s son, whom Palande had befriended. The plan went awry when Tikku flew in from Delhi and threw Shinde and Gajkosh, who were tenants, out of the flat.
Palande and his men had planned to kill Anuj too, Roy said. “That was aborted when they learnt that they had been identified.”
