MUMBAI: The NM Joshi Marg police on Tuesday filed three cases in the Arthur Road jail case where a clash between two rival groups on Monday left five inmates injured.
According to the police, the three complainants are the victim, Vishal Amkar, who was assaulted by Muddassar Ansari, who is the second complainant while the jailer, Anand Subhash Pansare, is the third complainant.
In his statement, Amkar said after a small brawl between him and the accused Sarvar Khan, he initially reported to Pansare.
“Amkar who was from barrack number 3 was exercising outside his barrack. Khan, who was passing by Amkar, kept staring at him. This angered Amkar and l ed to a brawl between the two. Later, Amkar then noticed Khan going into barrack number 2 instead of his barrack number 4. Amkar then told the jailer what had happened,” said officers.
The jailer tried calling Khan in order to settle the dispute but as he didn’t come, Amkar went back to his barrack.
L at er, Kh a n came near Amkar’s barrack with Suleman Patel, Ar man, Muddassar Ansari and Gopal Shetty and attacked him with a kapri [a sharp weapon made from aluminium plate and tin sheet].
“Raja Nair, Santosh Parab and Murug an Nadar, who shared a barrack with Amkar, intervened to save him but they were also injured,” added an officer.
The jail authorities said they used reasonable force to control the fight.
The situation was brought under control within seven minutes, said jail officials, adding that the attack took place “at the spur of the moment”.
