The Kurla police arrested Andheri resident Divya Agarwal (26) and her two accomplices on Thursday for cheating politician Nawab Malik's kin to the tune of Rs 4 lakh.
The other accused have been identified as Ehsaan Sheikh (21) and R.A. Devnani (44).
Agarwal reportedly approached Kurla-based garment dealer Mohammed Siddiqui, a relative of politician Nawab Malik, with the proposal to purchase a large stock of T-shirts. She bought 2,600 shirts worth Rs 4 lakh and paid Rs 15,000 as the token amount.
She promised to pay the remaining amount on the delivery of the stock to her office in Bandra, the officials said.
Rajesh Tripathi, one of Siddiqui's employees, reportedly loaded the shirts in a tempo and Agarwal's accomplice Sheikh took the goods.
The police said Agarwal and Tripathi were going to Bandra in an autorickshaw. Midway, Divya said she had lost her keys and promised to give the amount to Tripathi from an acquaintance at the nearby Dream Mall in Bhandup.
"She managed to give Tripathi a slip and switched off her phone," said Assistant Police Inspector Bharat Jadhav. Tripathi then informed his employer about the incident and a cheating case was lodged.
The police learnt that Agarwal had cheated many garment dealers in the last six months. They laid a trap and the trio was arrested from Bandra. The police said Devnani would help Agarwal dispose the booty with the garment sellers in Bandra.
