The police arrested three people on Friday for allegedly blackmailing an 18-year-old girl over her MMS clips in compromising positions with one of them.
The victim and the prime accused Nadeem Qazi (19) were classmates at an Andheri school and were reportedly in a romantic relationship. Two years ago, the girl’s family moved to Dahisar.
Since October 2009, the accused had allegedly been calling the victim threatening to put her photos on the Internet. They even called her parents regarding the same.
The accused demanded Rs 20 lakh for not doing so. Sources said that the girl got scared, went under depression and stopped going to college out of fear of being harassed.
Her parents agreed to pay the amount and brought down the extortion demand to Rs 13 lakh and gave around Rs 6.5 lakh to the accused over a period of one year.
After paying such a huge amount to the accused, the family started experiencing a financial crunch.
They then approached the police and a complaint against the five accused was lodged at MHB police station, leading to the arrest of three. “Further investigation is on in the case,” said a police officer.
